Melværrånen

This pleasant circular walk of about 2.5 km takes you through several different rock types. The route passes from conglomerate into breccias with fragments mainly of greenschist and greenstone, which belong to the Solund–Stavfjord ophiolite complex.

Breccia and conglomerate may look quite similar, but they differ in the shape of the stones. Breccia consists of angular, broken fragments, while conglomerate contains more rounded stones that were worn smooth during transport in rivers.
An ophiolite is part of deep oceanic crust that was later pushed up onto land.

At low tide, you can also see a large pothole that has been shaped by the sea over a long period of time.
