The statue of Ingolf Arnarson was erected in Rivedal in 1961, and is a copy of the statue erected in Reykjavik by Einar Jónsson in 1907. Landnámabók from Iceland states that Ingolf Arnarson was the first person to settle Iceland, and that he came from “Dalsfirdi i Fjolum”, Dalsfjorden in Fjordane. The Dalsfjord region has several burial mounds showing that it was a centre of power in the Iron Age.
