Dingemoen is an ice-margin delta formed in front of the ice edge towards the end of the last Ice Age. Large meltwater rivers beneath the continental ice sheet carried sand and gravel that were deposited where the rivers met the sea.
The top of the delta lies about 47 metres above sea level and marks the relative sea level in the area at that time, the so-called marine limit. The delta formed during the Younger Dryas cold period, about 12,800–11,700 years ago.
Today, large parts of the terrace are gone because the sand and gravel resources have been extracted. Even so, remnants of the original surface can still be seen in the terrain.
