Eight graves from the Iron Age testify to the importance of the island, probably over a period of 2,000 years. Some of the graves are oriented east–west, while others are placed more randomly. The latter may indicate a pre-Christian age. The last permanent resident on Alden moved away in 2017. Since time immemorial, the island has been an important navigation point for boats on their way to Norway. Access to Alden requires a boat.
